When should we hear back?

A few years ago when my son applied to Pitt, he had credentials far in excess of the honors college requirements, but did not have that offer in his admission letter. I called Pitt to see if he should have been included, and they had in fact made a mistake in omitting it. He subsequently got scholarships from Pitt and from the Engineering School. If you suspect an error, it would pay to call and ask. :)

lkf, what were your son's gpa and sat scores?

mine says i am eligible for the honors college. does that mean the same thing as accepted

gpa=4.6 and sat=14-something/1600 (needed 1350 at the time), top 1% of large hs class (over 500 students). It was three years ago though. I just think that colleges can make mistakes so if you think you were inadvertantly omitted, give them a call.

when should we hear about merit scholorships?

Got another letter from Pitt today, and I thought for SURE it would be about scholarhips, but it was just a letter from the Chancellor talking about how great Pitt is and how they hope I decide to go there... It was marked "special message from chancellor" or something on the envelope. I hope this isnt the "no scholarship" version of the congratulatory letter.

Not to worry yet. My D got that Chancellor letter last year, too. She also got a full tuition scholarship. Most people heard about scholarships about 2 weeks after they were accepted. Good luck everyone!

Can you check your admissions decision online at my.pitt.edu with the username and password you got after you applied? I know it tells you what documents they received but does it also give you the admissions decision when they make it or do you have to wait for an acceptance letter in the mail?

You have to wait for mail.

I got the Chancellor letter too. bummer. I'm holding my breath for scholarships. good to know I might hear soon.

I also got the GSPIA letter. Can anyone tell me what exactly it means by "guaranteed admission"? I was a little confused b/c of the website.

If you attend Pitt and maintain a certain average as an undergraduate, you will be automatically admitted to the graduate program specified in the letter. At least, that's my understanding of it.

my app was completed on the october 25th and i still haven't heard a response. what's up?

that's weird. maybe you should call them? I turned my app in about 2 weeks ago, and got a response in a week and a half...

just call them and ask if i got in? i mean October 25th is definetly a long time ago

Sure, why not call them. There could be several reasons for the delay. Either they didn't review your application yet, you are marginal for Oakland acceptance, you are applying to a selective program that hasn't decided yet, your acceptance was lost in the mail, etc. Please don't let the stress of not knowing ruin your Thanksgiving holiday. Just call.

anyone applying for chancellor's? more essays are the last thing i feel like doing this break .. oh well.

I mailed my application in Monday

lucky! i have til the 26th (this coming monday)

i have until dec 1. my first essay isnt very long and its not that good :(

i dot'n think i'm checking in the wrong place. i clicked on self service and admission status and it only says application is complete.
