topical essay #1, is it suppose to be electronic word or world

I just got offered $10000/year from Pitt. Should I expect more or do you think that's the final offer? They didn't say anything about Chancellor's, which is what I was hoping for.

Hmm. It's hard to say what's going on. If you have a 33 ACT, as you mentioned previously, that would roughly convert to a 1450-1500 SAT, which would be in the full-tuition scholarship zone, at least based on what Pitt handed out previously. If I were you, I would call and ask. It's possible a mistake was made. Pitt handles a huge volume of apps. (Or maybe Pitt is cutting back this year.) I'm not quite sure how you would word it, though. Maybe someone else will have a suggestion.

Hi Chrys,
Your earlier post says "I got the Chancellor letter too" so I assume you're still in the running for that. It will probably be a long while before you hear much about Chancellor's. Here's a link that explains the process.
Chancellor’s Scholarship

Well I got a $10,000 today, so that makes me happy, but I must say I am just slightly dissappointed because I really thought I was qualified for a $20,000. At least I got the Chancellors application.

Full tuition today! I'm really really really surprised, I think alot of other people were more qualified than I was. Still:

3.85 UW GPA / 4.62 W GPA
1350 SAT
32 ACT
2/469 class rank
Excellent Essay
Recommendation (dk how that was, but hopefully good lol)

I think the academic record got me the scholarship. Still surprised though since they put a lot of emphasis on the tests. Good luck to everyone else!

Do they ever bump up a nominee scholarship to something below a full ride (like full tuition) after getting the chancellor's application?

Does anyone know when applicants are notified of departmental scholarships like engineering? Does one letter cover all scholarships?

No, the scholarships came separately.

I received the Engineering dept. scholarship letter on the same day that the full tuition letter came. Engineering letter was dated a week later than the full tuition letter but I guess they sent it out the same time. They arrived in separate but similar-looking envelopes but both had certificates for my family and me (it was a nice touch!).

I did call today, and they just told me I could send in a written request about the Chancellor's, which I'll do. I focused mostly on that since I wasn't sure how to ask about anything else.

Thanks for the advice.

Okay, I got invited for Chancellor's after writing a formal request for them to review my profile. New question, though: I just got my SAT scores and they weren't as good as my ACT scores (1390/2030). Is that going to hurt me at all as far as other scholarships?

Chrys, no one here can really answer your question because Pitt doesn't spell out exactly what it's looking for in terms of scholarship recipients. But as I've said before, your 33 ACT is a wonderful score, and I thought you would have gotten full-tuition out of that. But if you want to try for the Chancellor's, who knows, they might award you something.

I notice you're from Ohio. I think it's great you like Pitt so much, but to be reasonable, are there any Ohio publics that have what you want? I'm sure you'll get merit money from OSU, and you would be in-state as well. Also, I have suspected that Pitt is awarding the scholarships to build diversity, which includes geography. Maybe there are already a bunch of Ohioans at Pitt, and Pitt wants to increase the number of kids from the West, or SE, or whatever. I'm just speculating here.

That could be. I just wondered if getting a lower score on the SAT after what I got on ACT would do anything. Might have been a dumb question--I don't know.

And yes, Ohio State is good, and I have been accepted there. I still like Pitt better for several reasons. Distance wise they are about the same (about 2.5 hrs.) No idea how merit $$ will be for them. You could be right about the diversity factor. I'd forgotten about that. I'll still try hard for Pitt, but I am keeping my options open.

I'm from Ohio with a 33 ACT and I got a full-tuition scholarship........

I think pitt is trying to be more selective this year...penn state is known to be a better school and higher ranked than pitt and i was accepted to penn state automatically but pitt asked for my mid year grades..in years prior students with similar grades to mine got into pitt with no problems

hoping . . did u hear back from pitt yet?

really? only one person in our school was accepted to a different campus than pitt. And A LOT of people applied to pitt in our class, like 50/300. I found psu more selective, psu stresses on GPA A LOT more than standarized test scores.

yea well i didnt get rejected from pitt or accepted yet..they said they want to see my mid year grades before they make a decisions..so im kind of on a waitlist i guess. a lot of kids in my school applied to pitt also and a decent amount got the same letter asking for their mid year grades

hoping, did you get into psu university park?
