I just got my december scores... not that great. I did better in november (92%) but i tht i would improve to something like 97%.. but its lower (83%). I want to take january, but my parents really, really strongly, strongly advise agaisnt it (i have to record a music cd :()

SO

should I not take the January test and just submit the November score? I'm applying to top tiered (exeter, andover, sps, etc.). I asked the admission counselors, but they say don't even dare taking it again because I have a 92. do you think this is enough??

WHEN IS REALLY, THE "SAFE SCORE" FOR TOP TIERED SCHOOLS? 90s? 95?

THANKS

PS I asked Exeter, they said the average of current students is about 85% (whoa)

I know the average at Hotchkiss is a 93 this year, i'm not sure about Exeter but I am pretty sure most top HADES schools are in the low 90s. Andover is a 93 (based on old info) Deerfield is 89 (old info). So that would put you in the middle of the pile..... BUT i think its good enough once your over 90 its rather irrelevant what you get, and once you are in no one cares what your scores where anyways. Good luck !

HADES schools are: Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter, and St.Pauls.

if u wanna take january to see if you improve choose that option where you can send your scores after you see it and decide then. but really any where in 90% puts you on the top and definitely in the running

i don't mean to sound obnoxious and hypocritical (i'm one of the "SSAT DOESNT REALLY MATTER" advocates)

but do schools look at your highest percentiles as in if you took two SSATs then let's say one you got a 95 and then the other you got an 85 in a section like verbal. would the schools just look at the 95 rather than the 85 and then do the same for the other sections? because i have two scores where i got the exact same overall percentile (95) but the "composites", shall we say, are quite different.

you guys sure? i'm wavering whether to take it or not, because then I'll have the essays, music cd, AND the ssat on my pile in few weeks.
senay, when you say i should look at my score with the January one and then send it, wouldn't that be a little too late? don't you have to send the scores WITHOUT checking they are good?

Al ot of people are saying I need a higher score, some say I don't.. I had a 98% verbal, but because of my 72% math and 74% reading they dropped it down.. my december was 93 verbal 50 math (HOLY SHI@#@#%@) and 81 reading.. for an overall of 83. Do you think I should still take the January? I've heard of kids being wait-listed because their ssats were too low. Or i'm being too paranoid. what do you think?

PS HOW THE HELL DID I GET SUCH A LOW MATH SCORE AHADGAFAD

The schools will accept the highest combination of scores, so you should submit both test results to the schools and let them pick out the higher subsection scores.

yes, but the problem is having to prepare for the SSAT AND the essays. my parents are keeping on sayin hell no you're not allowed to take the SSAT again. do you think the ssat matters more, or the essay? say lk you have a flawless ssat and report card bt your essay is mediocre. your essay is a master piece bt you have a mediocre ssat and report card. which person would be the better candidate??

bottom line: whats better to focus on, ssat or essay?

theres an essay on the ssat. i think thats more important then the actually essay you send because it shows your skills without help from teachers, parents, etc. take it with a grain of salt, this is my opinion which means that the school may not agree

The ssat allows the school to judge you academically relative to other students, while the essay is a place where you can really make yourself stand out among the myriad applicants. I personally feel the ssat is more important, since it's quite difficult to write a truly outstanding essay, but if you think that you're special enough (and have enough english skill) to write an essay that truly reflects who you are, then go for it.
