i'm interested in knowing as well

Can anyone help me answer this question?? =(

While no one really knows the mysterious ways of the admissions officers, I believe that they don't recalculate GPA (all years are included). However, they are much more likely to accept you if they see that your worse grades were freshman year (that is, your grades have been improving) than if they see that your grades have been going down. It's not true that they "do not consider" freshman year grades, it just matters more to them what kind of student you are right now.

Under Fred Hargadon, GPAs were recalculated using sophomore, junior, and senior grades (if applicable.) I'm not sure how it works under the Janet Rapelye.

I dont think they recalculated GPA. Its not really that they do not consider freshman year grades. They realize its a transition year so its more "laxed" as in if you miss a few marks like get a B or even a C its alright if its freshman year. I dont think they overlook Ds and Fs though. So as in "not considering" its more like if you have 2 or 3 Bs or even a C, its not as harshly looked upon as say if you got those grades junior year

Princeton does indeed recalculate GPA. If you apply early, the only grades included will be those from sophomore and junior year. If you apply regular, the recalculated figure will include mid-year grades. Freshman grades are not included in either case. First quarter senior grades are used only to ensure that you're still performing on par academically. The recalculated GPA includes only academic classes -- no electives or religious courses.

If you have more questions you should email the Office of Admissions at uaoffice@princeton.edu. They are very helpful and will answer any questions you have in a clear and straightforward manner.

Yes, princeton does recalculate your GPA. I think they take out all non-academic courses in this new gpa also.

Do you mean all electives, such as marketing, international business, etc.; or just classes like chef's class, etc? Thanks

Only in very rare cases are classes aside from core academic subjects included in the recalculation. Marketing and international business would most likely be excluded. If you have a specific course in mind, you should email the admissions office and ask. They'll be more than happy to tell you whether or not they include it.

Thanks for your responses, guys! I really appreciate it!
