When to apply for (1st) full-time job during college?

Hi, I'm asking this specifically in the engineering forum because I'm sure recruitment seasons differ between Business, Engineering and Arts&Science schools.

So as engineering undergrad majors, when do people typically interview for and land their post-graduation jobs? (I mean the good, prepared students). Do most people interview for and receive their full-time, entry-level job offer 1st semester of senior year? 2nd semester of senior year? Winter break between 1st and 2nd semester of senior year? Even the summer BEFORE senior year?

In other words, when do many employers typically do recruiting for entry-level jobs from the next graduating batch of engineering undergrads?

ps: I am not only asking about the Biggo Engineering companies (Boeing, IBM, Google, etc.) I'm asking about companies in general, medium-sized to megacorps.

pps: I am a Chemical Engineer

At my school people typically start in the beginning of Fall semester senior year. Some companies don’t start recruiting until later, but others seem to take everyone they’re going to want in Fall. It’s best that you start early, but if this is your senior year and you haven’t started there should still be opportunities out there for you.

At my sons school, Fall of senior year. His school has a large job fair in the Fall for both graduating seniors and for summer internships. This is in October and by November he is interviewing. Secured both summer internships this way and rec’d three recent job offers for when he graduates this May. (He accepted one and is one his way… and thy offered him a paid internship this Spring semester to get his foot in the door!!)
