When to apply for the college?

It seems that the common app starts on August 1st. Now should i have to send my application on August 1st itself?

Is August 1st the best date to send the college application?

What are the best dates to send a college application and how sending the application early will affect the admission chances?

When do most students send their applications?

Depends, do you want to do ED, EA, or RD?

For schools with a deadline, sending on Aug 1 is the same as sending any day before the deadline. For rolling admission schools, the earlier the better as long as you’re sending the best application possible.

Again, for rolling admission, earlier admission can help chances as fewer positions are filled, but for schools with deadlines, when you send does not affect chance of admission.

Anytime before the deadline or when a college stops accepting applications.

You’re overthinking this, go to the college websites, check their timelines and submit accordingly.

I was applying for Regular Decision. I am an International Student (From India). I am applying to the top ten universities. Now, what are the answers to my questions?

Thanks in advance.

Although the Common Application itself is available August 1, many colleges also have a college specific supplement. When you pick that college as one to apply to on the Common Application, it will tell you there is a supplement and allow you to link to that supplement. Note that all the supplements are not available on August 1. I think one of my D’s supplements was not available until maybe sometime in October last year! But I think that school was on the later end, too.

You need to check the college website for the due date for the applications. Note that the colleges hope to have all the materials in by the final due date they give (not just the common application, but the supplement, teacher recommendations, and transcripts). So it is good that you aren’t waiting until the last minute. But for a lot of schools you can’t actually apply quite as early as you are talking about (August 1) because of the supplement.

What is ment by rolling admission?

Colleges with rolling admissions accept candidates gradually throughout the admissions season rather than having a specific release date for decisions. Of course there are variations on this policy, some schools may have priority deadlines, etc.

Here’s an example:

[Comprehensive Application Review | Admissions](http://admissions.uoregon.edu/freshmen/apply/standardreview)

One thing that can affect your decision is actually housing - In many cases, your ability to sign up for housing is directly related to when you are admitted and how early you apply for housing (In many schools, you cannot apply for housing until admitted).

While I know it isn’t the reason to choose a school or not, I also know that many students are affected by where they get to live on campus and so you will want to understand how housing relates to admissions.

To OP- there is no advantage to getting your application in on August 1 as you will not get an earlier response unless the school participates in a rolling admissions process (earlier applications are processed first and notification is earlier). In addition if you are applying to the top 10 universities (depends on your definition), you want to make sure that your essays are well thought out. Doubt you can do this in 5 days.
