When to be interviewed

When you visit a campus, should you have an interview even if you’re not sure you’re going to apply? I don’t want to travel far and then realize that I want to go to XYZ college and they want an interview. Or, could it be you visit and see if they have alumni interviews? Can anybody clarify?

If you have time and the school allows it, schedule an interview. It will help you decide if the college is for you, and it will help you gain experience which should help when you interview for other colleges.
If you're making a whirlwind tour, you may not have time for interviews, in which case the alumni interviews are fine. But if you do have time, why not interview at the colleges?

but be sure to be informed about the school. If you're just in the research phase and you interview, you won't be able to answer questions about "Why X" or its variants very effectively. Colleges are looking for students who understand why they want to go there and what they will add. If you're still in the checking-things-out stage you may not give answers as effectively as those who have chosen that particular school.
