I'm a freshman. Should I start today or after the first lectures?

what classes are you taking?

asap. 10 charactars

as ankur1521 is suggesting, the answer depends on the course as well as how certain you are that you will stick with the class. If you are not sure and might drop it, go for a day or two before committing to a book.

Some courses may have books listed but the professor tells you on the first day that it is a helpful reference but not necessary - might skip spending some money if it isn’t needed. First class session can also clarify if older versions are okay, saving some $$ over the most current version.

For a few courses the professors always use the book and launch right in, making early availability important.

You usually have a few days before assignments from the book are

a week before the first midterm
