When to buy textbooks

Is it a good idea to have all of your books on the first day of class or do most professors give you a couple days to get them? Also how accurate is the bookstore in terms of having the right textbook info for a given class? I would hate to spend $200 only to find out it is the wrong edition.

You usually don’t need your textbooks for the first week or so of classes. If for some reason you do, most are usually available from the various libraries on campus, just make sure you put them on hold/check them out the week before classes start.

If you’re a freshman, most of your peers living in your dorm should be taking the same classes and will probably have bought the books so you can always borrow theirs/work together on stuff assigned from the book. It’s a good way to get to know people as well.

Student store is pretty accurate but I prefer to buy my books online since they’re much cheaper on sites like amazon and abebooks. International editions (usually it’s just paperback for Int’l Ed vs hardcover for the North American Ed) can be much cheaper but there might be some minor differences such as order of questions at the end of each chapter, etc.
