when to drop a course

Just curious, when is the optimal time to drop a course that you are not doing well in?? I realize that you have to give it some time since you can do poorly on your first test, and then improve. However, you do not want to wait too long since I would think there is a time when the grade would stay on your transcipt.

Sometimes there are business programs etc that you have to have a minimum gpa to stay in the program. Lets say it is a 3.0 and you are doing poorly in a class, like c- , heck that can put you below the 3.0 mark and now you cannot stay in the program. I would think it best to drop the class, and take it over the summer.

I gather the syllabus would tell you when you can drop a class but I believe if you took the class over the summer at another school and the credits are transferable, that the grade you earn would be on your regular transcript.

Thanks!!

For one thing, you have to do it before the withdrawal deadline that most schools have.

For another thing, the more time you spend in a course that you aren’t doing well in, the more time it will take from other courses that you could be concentrating on.

But the key factor people find is money. If you drop the course and take it in the summer, will your FA cover it? Or will you have to pay? In some cases, you can take up to 2 summer courses and get FA over your four years.

One thing that I have heard at many schools, is if you stick with the course and get an F, you can’t take it somewhere else. You must repeat at your own school.
