when to file CSS-Profile for regular application?

This is hazy to me:
for early application, CSS-Profile can only be filed with estimates(current year is not over yet, so tax return accurate numbers are not available); what about regular application? do we need to wait until next year when we are done with 2012 tax return, then file CSS-Profile with all accurate numbers?

also, for early application, since CSS-Profile is filed with estimates, do we need to re-file it next year when the accurate numbers are available? or just send 2012 tax return forms/w-2 forms is enough?

This is our oldest son applying, we've never been through this before...please advice.
Thanks.

You can file the Profile early with estimated numbers and update with correct numbers later if you want, but why would you go through it twice if a single time will meet the requirement?

that’s what I thought I’ll do - wait until I’m done with 2012 tax return; I was just wondering if there is anything I would miss by not filing early…

As long as you meet the school’s required date for the submission you should be good. Do check if it’s needed earlier if you’re applying for any special scholarships/FA.
