When To Fill Out Athletic Recruit Form To Contact Coach?

How does an athlete fill out one of these when contacting a coach for the first time? If the SAT isn't where you want it to be (yet), do you fill it in anyway with a score you know you want to improve, or, do you just fill in the required fields? Would it be better to write an email to the coach instead, bypassing the form altogether? Heading out to look at schools in a few weeks, and not sure how best to initiate contact. Did you only visit schools where contact was made, or did you visit anyway? Thank you for shedding light on this complicated process!

are you a junior? if so get your emails out today, most athletes started in january contacting coaches, and ya, skip the form and start with email to the recruiting coach.

I think it depends on your sport and whether or not you need stats from your spring season to bolster your package. If not, there’s no harm in making contact now.

I would suggest initiating contact by email with the pertinent info (including SAT score but will retake next month). The advantage to email is that your child can personalize his/her email and ask if the coach would be available to meet when you’re visiting the campus.

Email to head coach is best for fastest response…esp. if you are looking to visit during April Vacation (look at the team schedule too to avoid visiting when the team is away).
