When to follow up after interview? (internship)

Last Thursday I had a brief phone interview with a manager and the engineer I would be working under for an internship, and later the manager sent me an email in order to set up a "follow-up interview."

So, on Monday I dressed up and went, but this turned out to be rather an informal meeting. The manager wasn't there, but the other person (the guy that would be my boss, I suppose) showed me around the facilities and went over tasks I would preform. I was pretty quiet the entire time, but I managed to ask a few questions. The way he was talking, it sounded like I had the position, though I don't know.

Now, two days later, I am anxious about whether I got the internship or not since I have not heard back since. I probably should have, but I didn't sent a thank you email. I also forgot to ask when I could expect to hear back from them.

Would tomorrow be OK to send an email giving a thank you and to ask when I could hear back? I don't want to seem pushy...

Send something that says - thanks so much for taking the time to show me around last week - just wanted you to know that I am very interested in this opportunity to work with you (don’t ask when will I hear - that is tacky in my opinion) Send it now !!

Rule of thumb is to send follow up (thank-you) letters within 24 hours. Write a nice, personal thank you letter and indicate your strong interest, and mention that you look forward to hearing back as soon as possible.
