This is simply false. Tread squirm does not improve the contact patch.

Check any car mag testing cars after their 40,000 mile extended tests.

So, relatively new cars with new tires. What car mags? What type of cars? What type of tires? What compounds and treadwear ratings? What operating conditions?

We’re talking tread depth, not mileage. For example, a 50,000-mile highway all season tire versus a performance tire? Two different issues/factors.

Also, search “panic stopping.” Less tread depth will affect braking distance. Roughly, every 2/32nd’s of tread depth is about 100’ +/- (more or less) of extra of stopping distance at 70mph. And blowouts are more likely to occur with less rubber.

They confirmed 2/32” dry braking distances are shorter than full 10/32” depth, not the nearly 150 foot increase your claim would indicate. 4/32” as well. They also confirm improved handling.

And that was never mentioned. I did say new tires needed “breaking in.”

If you’re using less than 6/32” of tread in 6-8 years, you’re in a small minority with different considerations).

“Small minority”? I’ll disagree. Minority, sure. But lots of folks put their cars in storage and lots of folks have 2nd or 3rd cars that don’t get used that often as their DD’s (daily drivers). And lots of folks are car enthusiasts and/or car collectors, where their cars are rarely used and their put on “battery maintainers.” I know quite a few. And I see quite a few at our local Cars & Coffee.

Sorta depends on your locale too.
