So I took both the subject test in literature and history on the same test date. I received a 750 on the history, but a 570 on literature (ouch!). Now since I took them on the same date, if I report one of these scores, I MUST report both, correct? If that is true, am I better off taking the history test again in October but this time just that single test so I don’t have to worry about a poor score on another test such as literature? I plan on applying to places such as USC, LMU, BU, etc… I already took the Latin subject test (June) and I am positive I got a 700+. So do I take history again without the burden of another test (i.e., literature). OR, do I report both scores to show I tried? Any help would be lovely, thanks.
actually, I’m pretty sure you can use Score Choice and decide which test scores you want to submit (and they can be on different days too). https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/scores/sending-scores/score-choice?ep_ch=CO&ep_mid=11257722&ep_rid=244902150 Someone correct me if I’m wrong, please!
Assuming that the college allows score choice for Subject Tests (most do, but the are a handful that don’t), you are correct. BU (unless for some combined programs like BS/MD), USC, and LMU do not require Subject Tests, so send whichever scores you want.
Thank you so much! Now to implement score choice, do I simply not tell the colleges that I took the lit test by not including it via the common app?
@skieurope ah, I see! which colleges don’t practice score choice then? thanks!
Here is a list of score choice policies for schools from the college board. https://secure-media.collegeboard.org/digitalServices/pdf/professionals/sat-score-use-practices-participating-institutions.pdf
I couldn’t find information specifically relating to subject tests. It’s a good idea to check each school’s individual admissions website when you apply to make sure the college board’s information is correct or to find information specifically relating to subject tests. When in doubt, just email the admissions office of the college and ask what their policies on subject tests/score choice are.
While reporting the scores on the Common App is voluntary, all schools that require scores will require an official report from the CB. If you don’t want them to send the lit test, you simply exclude the lit test when you fill out the CB’s form.
