When to retake

I just took the March 12th SAT. Wrote a horrible 3 paragraph essay with one underdeveloped example, no transitions due to the length, and a short, weak conclusion. I know I didn't do well on the Critical Reading either. The rest of the writing and math were really good though. I feel like cancelling but I'm not sure yet.
I will take it again for sure, making it my third SAT the next time. I also have to take at least 1 SAT II, though. I'm a junior this year so the only available slots are May, June, October, and November. May's SAT is a day after my AP US exam and June is probably better for SAT II's than for the SAT I. That leaves October or November. Are these two dates risky because they are so close to the early admissions deadlines? Can anyone help me out?

At S's prep school they recommend October for the final taking of SAT I. It is plenty of time for early decision applications. Even November is OK for most schools, but you might have to pay for a rush score report. I wouldn't worry about May or June since you just took it. Get your score, see how you did in all the areas, prep over the summer and go for it in October. You will do great in October. D (college soph) took it in May of junior year and didn't take it again. S (hs junior) took it in January and today. If he likes today's score, that will be it for SAT I. He hates these tests.
