when to return to UCLA after xmas break?

According to this UCLA calendar (<a href="http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/calendar/06-07cal.htm)%5B/url%5D">http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/calendar/06-07cal.htm)</a>, it says our winter quarter begins on Jan. 3rd, but it also says that instructions begins on Jan. 8th. So... do we come back to school on the 3rd or the 8th? I'm concerned because I'm trying to book a flight as soon as I can.

Classes start on the 8th. If you're in the dorms, you come back sometime in between.

haha isn't it kinda early for this

yes, it is kind of early, but on the other hand, the man (or woman) is playing it smart by buying his/her tickets before everyone else. There's going to be a huge rush around winter break, and I sure don't want to be stranded in LA with nowhere to live (dorms) for 3 weeks. Might as well ensure that you have a ticket.

im flying back in the afternoon of the 7th on southwest ().

got tickets already. get em while theyre cheap and hot! $49 one way within CA.

and just for clarification, it says quarter ends dec. 15 so we can leave any time after that, right?

you can leave anytime after you're finished with finals, which can often be before the end of the quarter.

You can leave whenever your finals are over.

Psh, JINX!!

So at winterbreak do you leave your non-essential things in your dorm like some clothes, supplies, fridge (if there is one) etc or you clean out everything (I hope not).

you leave everything in, but you still have to check out at the front desk.

You don't have to check out for winter break. At least that's what I did and was told by Sproul's front desk staff.

And according to UCLA, it is recommended to take all necessities and valuables with you during the break since you'll be locked out and they may be doing maintenance stuff.

if you want to get technical, you never have to do anything for anyone in life.

Well, there's no penalty like the year end checkout.
