When to say enough is enough.

I’m currently a sophomore Biology/Premed in NYC. Since I started college I have had cold feet about medicine (I suck at science, and also hate the idea of applying to med school with a poor GPA bc of this weakness.) But I was wondering, for any former pre-meds, what was the last straw for you? What made you finally say you’ve had enough and pursue something else? I’m actually curious as most blogs I read about this involve an undergrad whining and not leaving (myself included), or even a PRACTICING PHYSICIAN just getting up and leaving their job. I have seen very few people in the middle of these two extremes and really left discuss their thought process.

If you don’t feel like going into medicine (or any other health profession) anymore, you are probably going to want to make the decision either freshman year or first semester sophomore year. Otherwise you waste so much time and effort taking those pre-health classes when you could have taken other classes that you are interested in and/or not had to be as stressed out about grades.

If you suck at science, you’re going to hate the first couple years of med school…if you get that far. Applying to med schools with a poor GPA is as nutty as applying to HYPS with a 20 ACT.
