I requested transcripts today from my school for every single school to which I will be applying. All I have to do now is address them, stamp then, and send them on their way. How soon should I do this? Do I need to wait until the application is submitted, or can I send them now even though the deadlines aren't until November?

Usually the school sends the “official” copy to your target schools without ever handing one to you. That’s the typical MO for US high schools. Don’t worry about the order that items get to the colleges – a file is started and items get added.

My school is a little different, in that we request the transcript, they supply it to us in a sealed envelope with return address to the school, and it’s our responsibility to send them out.

Send them before you submit your application. Preferably 1-2 weeks ahead of the due date. Some colleges are really strict about things arriving after the due date and this will give them ample time to arrive.

Try to submit the request at least a couple weeks before application deadline and around the time you send the application (whichever is earlier). This would ensure the on time delivery and proper filing by adcom.

@guineagirl96 @billcsho So would it be bad to send the transcripts now? You guys are saying I should wait until a little closer to the deadline?

Now is definitely too early. I wouldn’t send them earlier than october for a november deadline, unless you are submitting your application now. Its not bad persay, but you run the risk of it getting lost or misfiled.

^ I agree although it would be fine most of the time.
By the way, it is “per se” not “persay”.

haha, thanks. I was typing kinda in a hurry- i’ll be more careful next time!

Check each school’s web site on when transcripts need to be sent.
