My D has been accepted to UMCP. It is currently not her first choice, however, given that there is a chance she will attend (I'd give it 30%) - should we send in a housing deposit?

The later you send it the lower on the housing list you will be. I believe it was 200 last year, and if you declined by a certain date you got it back. Call housing and they can verify that.

Housing is in very short supply at UMD, so if triples and quads are okay with her, than hold off to the last possible second.

Thanks for your response, I figured the housing was competetive!

So, does she actually confirm her enrollment, then we send the housing deposit?

I honestly can't remember. I do remember sending in the check very soon.

My S2 is in the same position. He is waiting to here from 3 other schools in late March, early April, but UMD is one of his top choices. The UMD housing web site does not mention triples and quads, at least I couldn't find it. All it says is that freshman are guaranteed housing if you send in your deposit by May 1st. Does the Honors dorm have these triples and quads?

When do we send the housing deposit? I assumed we would have to enter a credit card when we confirmed on line, but I wasnt asked for one.

Anyone have any idea how we are billed?

Last year the housing fee was part of the student's enrollment confirmation online. I remember paying it online via credit card.

We went ahead and confirmed and paid the fee right away, even though my son was not sure he would be attending UMD at that point. The fee is not refundable, so be aware of that. Also, do not make a deposit at more than one school to hold a spot. That's called double-depositing, and it's a no-no. :)

I thought we would have to pay right away - but I couldnt see where.

Anyone else experience this?
