My fall term ends on december 10. should i wait for fall grades to come out then send transcript for those schools that have app due on january 2?

Depends. How well are you doing this semester? ;)

Seriously, I wouldn't wait that long. Presumably your performance this semester will not so greatly affect your GPA that it will make a difference to the admissions committees. I have a few app.s due January 1st, and I'm going to err on the safe side of the snail-mail delay and get them out in November (or now...if I can get up the energy to schlepp my tuckus to the Recorders Office). But if you're worried about it, call/email the schools in question and ask what they expect.

Schools are generally not expecting to see your grades from first term senior year if you are still in school.

But if you are confident that your grades will come out and be sent in time, and your grades from this semester will be helpful to your application, I don't see a problem in it.

I think for one or two schools that had a Jan 1 deadline I sent in my transcript without fall grades and then included a copy of my unofficial transcript (either as a .jpg/.pdf, or just as text in the "Other Information" section) along with my application. I figured if I'm going to get over a 3.8 for once I'd like them to know about it. :p

This sounds like something that would make my blood pressure skyrocket. I can't imagine the troubles that could occur in trying to pressure that last professor to just calculate your damn grade already. Or worse, the administrative beaurocracy enters your exams under somebody else's student id and the grades get delayed. This is all up to you and your threshold for this kind of pressure. best of luck.

Don't play with fire! A simple administrative foul up could knock you out of the running. And don't forget that:

1) end of term is not usually the due date for grades,
2) even if the grades are "in the system" you may not be able to get an official transcript because most university offices will be closed.
3) Even if you get a transcript mailed, it could easily get hung up in the busiest mailing week of the year.

Send your current transcript as soon as you have everything else complete. When the grades are in, you can email an unofficial transcript as a PDF as RR suggests.

maybe I should do that. but, seriously this is harder than when I applied from high school. There's so much to send!

Just wait until you've sent your applications in and you're waiting for responses. The tension was way worse for me in grad school than undergrad.
