What year do students start interning in CS?

Freshman year.

Most people find internships in the summer of their junior year.
If you can find an opportunity before that, go for it.

I wouldn’t say that, at all. It depends on the school, but it’s very common to see 3 to 4 semesters of internship experience before hiring. The student with 1 or 2 internships is at a substantial disadvantage in hiring.

^^^ 3 or 4 is not “very common”

Actually, it is. Based on our applications, over 30% of the 3.0+ GPA students coming out of first tier engineering schools have at least 3 semesters of co-op/internship at graduation. If you start to look at lower tier schools or lower GPA students, that number obviously goes down because of less availability of opportunities.

sophomore year

it depends on the type of university you are attending. If you ride on the shoulders of giants, the better for you because you easily get internships from different source.

Theirs no way 3 or 4 internships are common. If a graduate typically takes 4 years that leaves a minimal of 3 summers to get internship experience (well 4 summers if you include the summer after graduation but by then you should have a job landed or grad school)

Are you considering a co-op to be 2 semesters on this scale?
