I'm a CS major looking for an internship next summer. I want to go into software engineering or quality assurance.

Some companies have already posted positions for next year.

Should I apply to them as soon as I see them posted or should I wait for my quarter to end so I will have a slightly higher GPA to put on my resume?

I have a 3.5 GPA right now.

I want to apply all over America. Will most companies do Skype or phone interviews?

Apply for them as they are posted. Firms do interview this early. If they are on the other side of the country, they won’t make you do an in-person interview for just an internship.

Yeah, my inititial reaction is that you should have started 3 weeks ago. Back when I was doing cross-country internships, they only ever phone-interviewed me…

Yeah I have a career center. There are information sessions coming up soon for internships that I plan on attending. There may be an session with recruiters coming too.

Also, would you say most companies either knowingly or unknowingly give those who apply early priority over those who barey applied in time?

One more question,

It seems like most internships are posted on job sites that don’t specify a start date. That means that it could be a Fall 2011 internship or a Summer 2012 internship. Which one would it most likely be? Should I apply to them anyway because on my resume it says I’m only available Summer 2012?
