Hi all! I'm a little clueless with all this SAT stuff. I'm the oldest kid in my family, so I don't really know when I'm supposed to start sending SAT scores to colleges. I'm a Junior and I just took my first SAT on January 26. I won't start applying to colleges until later in the year, so do I wait until then to start sending or start now? I'm just really confused. Thanks!

You send your scores with your college applications.

How did you do on Jan. SAT? If you think you did pretty good, you need to log into College Board website now and register to send your score to 4 univeristies for free. You may pick your state universities (their score requirement may not be high), since you don’t know the score yet. This option will be expired soon so hurry up.

I have the same situation: oldest, no clue. If I took the Jan SAT, but I don’t send any score, do I still get 4 free reports if I take it again? Or is it just your first time, once only?

My college counselor told me that when you apply, colleges look at the first time you send them your scores, showing them that you were on their mind at that point in time. I took the January SAT too, but I didn’t want to use any of my free score reports because they get sent despite my score! And if I did poorly, I don’t want colleges to know! And if I did well, then I’ll send them after I find out - true that it’s a waste of money to not just send them before, but it’s a safer bet!

If you don’t use the free score reports, you lose them. That’s why I recommend you to send them when you register for the test, or right after the test (there maybe one or two days left for register schools for score report). You need to hurry up if you don’t want to waste this opportunity. If you are not sure about your score, send them to your State Schools, since their SAT requirements tend to be low.
