I am going to self-study psych and i want a 5. When and what should i use to self-study? I am also taking 4 APs at school. Stat, Calc AB, Phys B, and APUSH. and i have to study for SATs and other activities....

Start studying now. Right this moment. Use the Princeton Review, for it is all you need.

Psych is really about memorization. Get Barron’s, write flashcards, read through the book over a month for about 1.5h each week and you’re good to go!

I started studying the spring break before the exam, since by then the test is close enough that you won’t forget as much.

Whoa, Barron’s is definitely the best for Psych. I started the weekend before the exam, but I don’t recommend that.

will barrons suffice as a self-study text? or should i get a textbook or is that overkill?

No, Barron’s is more than enough. You can’t imagine how well Barron’s covered the material on the actual exam. I cannot say the same for Barron’s Human Geography.

Barron’s is EXCELLENT for self study.

but… this is how I personally got a 5 on the PsychAP test:
-read and took notes on the textbook (throughout the school year): Psychology by David Myers (ISBN 0716764288) – sells for less than $5 used on Half.com – seriously consider getting the book, it covers almost all of the AP material, and is THE funniest and best textbook I have ever read
-once a week a teacher and a group of other students met together afterschool to discuss the material, review, etc
-two months before the AP test, start going though all of the chapters in the Barron’s book
-2 weeks before - quickly review all chapters focusing on memorizing things that I haven’t memorized yet (e.g. all the different theories of personality), memorize all the important people; take practice tests

Of course, this is how I got WAY more than just a five, but if you don’t have that much time you can just use the barron’s book, but start at least 3 months in advance and study for about an 1- 1 1/2 hours per week and you’ll most likely be fine.

You’ll just be missing out on the AMAZING psych textbook :)

Forgot to say that I agree that Barron’s is more than enough, it covers the material very thoroughly and the practice tests are really representative of the real test.
