So far I have applied/heard from these schools:

U of Alabama(accepted)
U of Pittsburgh(accepted)
U of South Carolina(accepted)
NC State(accepted)
U of Minnesota-TC
Auburn

These are all of the applications that I had planned on sending. But, as the RD deadlines come closer, I have started to wonder if I should apply to any more? I've been accepted to all schools so far but I guess I just keep thinking...."What if I had applied to some other schools too?" I'm really not sure what to do. Also, I have not been to any of the campuses except NC State yet, so it scares me that I might hate all of the schools once I visit.
Any advice?

Stop when you are accepted to where you want to go! My D applied to one school (her dream school) and was accepted. She’s done. Until you visit all possibilities you will never know if there was maybe something else out there. It’s only four years. If you like one of the places you were accepted and you are comfortable giving them four years and will be proud to have a diploma from there on your office wall 20 years from now, then save some application fees, take your significant other to dinner and a movie and relax for a few months. On the otherhand, if you’re not real comfortable with any of these, keep shelling out the $50-$75 application fees until your satisfied.

While I do agree with you, it is impossible for me to know which I really want to go to, as I have never been to any of them. Right now, Alabama is my top school and I have gotten fairly excited about going, but my fear is that when I visit in january I will not like it. I will be visiting South Carolina and Auburn in the same trip. Should I just hope that I fall in love with at least one of them?

What state are you a resident? Is money a factor? All of the schools you applied to are really great schools. All have great traditions and fabulous sports. But collecting admissions letters is not the goal here. At the end of the day, you have to decide on where you will go…and the more acceptance letters you receive the harder it will become. My suggestion is to stop here. If you applied to these schools with no intention of attending (I don’t think you did that), then that is problematic in its own right. Looks like UMinn and Auburn will also admit you. So there you are.

Make your selection and move forward. And by all means visit as many as you can.

Stop and think about where you really want to go… and if they have a good program for you. Once you figure out what that school is if you haven’t visited it yet try that then apply if you haven’t done so already…

NC. I will not be attending NC State for sure. I applied for a financial safety before I realized that I could find financial safeties that I liked better. I received a full tuition + $2500 scholarship to Alabama. I am waiting on scholarship info from USC. After receiving no scholarship from Pitt, it is off the list. I did not apply to any school that I could not see myself attending (besides State) but it is just really hard to know without seeing any of them in person. I think I may just leave it all be, and hope the trip next month goes well.

Also, I know I keep saying this but I will again.
I have visited 10 schools. I applied to not one of them after visiting. Due to these experiences, I have learned that thinking I will like a school does not mean I will once there. I’m not even really sure what I’ve asking for from you all…just advice I guess. I’m just really confused.
Thanks to responses so far.

I don’t think you will really KNOW until you see the school. But, at every school there are students who first laid eyes on the campus on move-in day. At least scour the websites and school publications to get a feeling for the campus life. Go to the CC boards for those schools and see what others are saying. I guess I would also be a little uncomfortable committing to a place I have never seen. What made you select the schools that you did apply to?

I will get to visit the schools, but not until after RD deadlines have passed. I chose these schools for a variety of reasons. They all have the major I want. None are too incredibly expensive, and most offer scholarships that I will (hopefully) qualify for. UMinn and Pitt were appealing for their location in large cities but that has since become less important. I was not interested in schools that were super reaches just because I do not want to be somewhere where I just barely got in and will be behind most students academic-wise.
I have definitely been looking at the CC boards but it is just difficult to say I will be going to one of these 5 schools that I have not been to. Although it probably doesn’t make sense, a part of me says that more schools means a better chance of visiting one and loving it. The other part of me says I am bound to like at least one of them, even if I don’t fall in love at first sight(haha).

We’ve visited 3 of your schools on your list. They were all very nice, so I can’t imagine that you would visit all of your list and not like any of them. :)
