When to submit common app for early decision?

<p>For a college with an early decision deadline date of 11/1, when is it too late to submit the common app? I'm asking this b/c some of my friends insist that submitting it close to the deadline (think end of October) will make the applicant look bad while my guidance counselor said that any time before 11/1 is ok. The transcripts and recommendations are taken care of already.</p>

<p>So realistically, how much time do I still have to work on the common app for the school I'm EDing to?</p>

<p>Technically, you have until 11:59 pm ET on November 1, but it’s not wise to wait until the last minute. If you find that you have questions, the support team might not have enough time to get back to you before the clock strikes midnight.</p>

<p>Ok thank you - and another question: say my teachers are submitting their recommendations by mail - about how much time does it take to process and actually arrive at the college? (I live in New York, the colleges I’m applying to are mainly in the same region)</p>
