When to Take ACT

I asked a similar question before, but in a different forum. Since posting that, things have changed :)

I am taking the ACT at the end of the year, in preparation for transferring from a CC before getting my AA. I had a unique background in math, meaning I simply wasn't schooled at all past the second grade. Community college has allowed me to learn Algebra concepts for the first time! I make decent grades. This fall, I am taking both Algebra 2 and Geometry.

My question is, do I take the ACT in October or December? Obviously, I will know the subjects better by December, but is that a poor time to take it if I am going to be applying to colleges in January? Would I be better off taking it in October, getting a lower score? I am confident I can do extremely well in the other sections, so my comprehensive score won't be terribly low.

If I am understanding correctly, you are going to be a transfer applicant and likely won’t apply for transfer until January (and even possibly after; transfer applications generally follow different, and later, deadlines from freshman applications) for the the subsequent Fall semester. If so, and a test score is needed, it won’t be needed until after the December ACT score comes out and it sounds like you will likely be better prepared to take that one than the one in Oct.
