When to take business classes at Berkeley

Hi again!
I’m starting as a Freshman at Berkeley next year and, among other options, I’m considering a double major in Chemistry and Business (if I can get into Haas, of course). I planned out a tentative schedule for the next four years, including all the business and chemistry courses necessary for graduation, but I realized there are some business courses whose descriptions say “Restricted to Undergraduate Business Administration Majors Only.” However, these courses (like UGBA 100) often come numerically before other courses (like 101A and 101B) that don’t contain this description. Is UGBA 100A just an anomaly that truly cannot be taken until one is accepted into Haas? If so, should I plan on taking UGBA 101A and 101B before 100? Sorry if this post is confusing, as I can’t quite make heads or tails of the whole process. Thanks in advance for your responses!
Danny

Excuse me; when I say “Is UGBA 100A just an anomaly,” I mean to refer to UGBA 100. Apparently I am not allowed to edit, so I’ll post it here instead. Thanks!

A numerically lower number does not necessarily mean that the course is a prerequisite to a numerically higher numbered course. Check the catalog for the actual prerequisite relationships between the courses.

For example, UGBA 101A and 101B list prerequisites of Economics 1, Mathematics 1A or 16A, Statistics 21, or equivalents. They do not list UGBA 100 (or each other) as a prerequisite.

@ucbalumnus Thanks for your response. I guess I wasn’t asking about class prerequisites so much as I was wondering which classes can be taken before one has been accepted to Haas. In my current schedule plan, for example, I’m planning on taking UGBA 10 second semester Freshman year, Econ 1 first semester Sophomore year, and UGBA 101A second semester Sophomore year, presumably before I know whether or not I have been accepted into Haas. Do you know if I will be able to take UGBA 101A before knowing of my acceptance?

You can check the class schedule just before the Adjustment Period each semester to see if any of the desired business courses have space available after business majors have gotten a chance to enroll in them (while others can only get on the waitlist).
