When to take Math II Subject Test?

So, next year, I’ll be a freshman taking Honors Pre-Calculus. I know that MIT (where I’d like to go) requires taking the Math II test, and it seems that the best time to take it is right after Pre-Calc. I really want to (and think I can) get an 800, which means studying. The problem is, I don’t know which test date I want to choose (and yes, I know it’s a little early).

So far, the best dates seem to be December 5, January 23, or June 4 (2016), as the May date is smack in the middle of AP tests. My question, therefore has three parts:

  1. Will I have covered all/enough of the Pre-Calc material to do well in December/January? I know the curve is generous; will it be enough to cover any gaps?

  2. Is two weeks enough time to review, in regards to to the June date (given that I’ll be fresh off finals)?

  3. Which date do you think is best?

FYI, I’m a very strong math student (98/99%) and took the SAT last year, so I have some testing experience.

Nope, only need to take Math I or Math II for MIT. I took Math II.

I agree; it’s really early for you - I also took pre-calc freshman year, but didn’t take Math II until October of senior year. That said, I suggest waiting until after finishing pre-calc. If you learn the material well and use it enough, you could probably take Math II anytime.

How are you guys in pre-calc in 9th grade, in my school even if you are accelerated you won’t be able to take it until 11th, and take Calc AB as a senior.

@jman457 my Calc AB class had 3(?) freshmen (I was a sophomore). But they are really bright. Also, school policies…

Oh ok in nys you have to take regents in math so I don’t think it would be possible to take pre-calc as a freshman

@MITer94 If you don’t mind me asking, how much prep did you do, and what did you get?

@AllonsyObviously 800 with virtually no prep. I did a lot of math contests (AMC, AIME) though.
