When to take the Math II SAT Subject Test?

I've heard most people take it after precalc, but I took integrated 3 freshman year (bascially algebra 2 +trig). In order to take AP Calc AB (which I'm taking this year as a sophomore), I had to take a summer precalc course run by the school. However, that course was only 8 days long, and didn't cover stuff like polar coordinates and parametric equations, which I think are included on the test. Is taking the Math II test in June a good idea, or should I wait until after Calc BC? (I'm probably going to take the Bio and Chinese Subject Tests this year too).

Polar coordinates and parametric equations are covered in Calculus BC, but that’s more about the calculus of them. The Math II Subject Test takes a lot of self studying (At least for me. My school didn’t teach much of the info.) so I would recommend taking it soon–waiting for BC Calc isn’t going to help much. Just make sure you study topics you haven’t covered in school and you’ll be fine!

Cool I think I can study for it after AP exams in May since it’s in June and my teacher is pretty good. Thanks!

you should probably also self study more -precalc. After Calc BC you have more things like vectors, in multivariable, and matrices in linear alg.

BC Calc made me forget all my basic precalc, so I wouldn’t recommend waiting until then to take Math II… Self-study for the Math II after your summer precalc class (I recommend the Barron’s book) and take it in the fall.

I’m not really sure I can do that at this point, since I start school in 1.5 weeks, but I’ll probably end up taking it in June, after AP testing is over.

Calculus will not help, actually waiting after calculus will make you forget what you learned in pre-calculus. @schoolisfun posted a guide (link below) about how to study for it and I found it very helpful. Let me know if you have any questions.

Oh wow thanks for that link, it looks really helpful! I still think I’m going to wait until June to take it, as I most likely won’t have time to study for it during the school year, but I’ll pretty much have the whole month of May to study, and it looks like I’ve learned around 75% of it. Thanks again!
