When to take which test.

I'm a Sophomore student looking into either doing a MA -> PhD in Biostatistics, or a MD/PhD program. Knowing this, I need to take both the GRE and the MCAT. I was wondering when would be the best time to do this. Is taking the GRE or MCAT during the summer of Sophomore year too early?

My current rough sketch plan is to take the GRE during the summer of Sophomore year and the MCAT during the summer of Junior year. If my GRE score is not up to par with my standards, I'll retake the GRE sometime during senior year.

I wouldn't stress out too much about the gre general test. It really isn't too tough and doesn't require much studying. The MCAT is tough and will require at least a few months of careful preparation (it's not offered all months though). The gre subject test, at least the biochem one, was unbelievably difficult. It took me about three times more prep than the mcat did. I did very well on both, but the subject test was much more difficult. best of luck in your plans.
