I would like to get suggestions on when is best time to take your first SAT I in junior year. Is it December or April? Thanks.

Since you're recommended to take it 3 times, no more, then you should wait until you receive PSAT scores, which is past the December SAT date. Then, when you get PSAT scores, you can judge whether you're ready to go for it in January or whether you want to wait till April. There's also a few ACT test dates in between, if you're interested. Just make sure to take it in or by April, because that leaves you with a test date in June to try again, and finally another in the fall of senior year to try once more.

jimbob, thanks. It makes sense to wait to january or april.

Don't forget you may have to take SAT II's, preferably in June after your junior year.

I took the SAT for the first time in December of my junior year, and I did fine without any prepping. After a little math prepping, I took it again in March. I took the SAT II's in June, and worked on my applications during the fall of my senior year. It's best to have testing finished before or early in your senior year, IMO.
