When to visit colleges and how to pick which schools to visit

When do most kids visit there colleges of interest? Should you visit all colleges that you are interested in? Do you have an interview during visit and, if not, when do you interview?
Thanks

I started visiting summer before senior year, and then did a number of visits senior fall. There were also several schools I put off visiting until I got in, including the three schools that ended up being my top three (two were just too out of the way to visit compared to the other schools I was applying to, and one I had been to a number of times, just never as a “college visit”). I had interviews at two, but most of the schools I visited did alumni interviews exclusively, so i interviewed with alumni near where i live…the guys house with football on in the background, local paneras, the local library, my high school, a chinese restaurant, an alums office. I also didn’t interview for all the schools I applied to.

Start visiting as early as you are interested. See some big schools and some small whenever you can. Then you will be able to narrow it down a bit. Spreading the visits out more is beneficial. You can only take so many days off from Senior year. Then arrange for an alumni interview if you already saw it, but you couldn’t interview.
