Print it out now and you can start filling it out. A new version comes out in August and you can start filling it online. They make slight changes each year, however nothing major. The essays are usually confirmed in the Spring and those rarely change.

Good luck!

Don’t start filling out the common app yet, it’s going under some major changes for next year and you will likely be wasting your time. Check out this link for details.

Maybe some things will stay the same and you could work on those, I’m not sure. I would still suggest waiting. Focus on ACT/SAT, GPA, and extracurriculars. Narrow down a list of schools you want to apply to and figure out if you want to do ED somewhere. Then in August when the new common app comes out begin working on your common app.

There will be some major changes next year. Just wait until August 2013 – you’ll be fine.

Thanks everyone!

If you haven’t done it yet, make up a list of all of your extracurricular activities, accomplishments, and any awards since the start of 9th grade. Just put it in a Word document, and keep adding to it whenever you think of something or something new happens. Then when you do go to fill out the common app, you will have that to refer to so you don’t forget any of your ECs. There are posts out here all the time from people who forgot to put something in that section of their common app, and then remember after submitting it.

Sometimes looking over that list will prompt you to think of an essay response, too, when you start your essays late next summer.

Also, remember that your grades are super important for this semester. Really focus on doing the best you possibly can, and if you haven’t already, start developing some strong, solid relationships with your teachers.
