When is the best time to start writing college essays? As a junior in high school starting his second semester, I'm wondering if it would be better to start writing drafts now or wait until summer when I have more experience and have narrowed my search for colleges.

Definitely in the summer, like around August.

It’s a personal thing. I am much more efficient when I am under pressure, so I wait pretty late, as in the week before. However I know the prompts early on so when it’s time to write I have ideas

start in the summer, aim to finish early to leave enough time for edits

I started my common app back in like May of junior year. It sounded like a pretty solid essay at the moment, but once I got in to my senior year and took this college essay help program in my school I realized how crappy it was (grammatical errors, no voice, i used so many contraction) and had to rewrite it like twice. Tiny mistakes like those do really matter. So I would say start jotting down ideas towards the end of your junior year, write your first draft in the summer, and have it looked over by teachers once school starts.

When you feel like writing. I can’t write equally well all the time…sometimes I feel inspired and sometimes I don’t. I wrote my Common App essay over spring break last year and applied to colleges in November.

i did UC applications the day before, but i didn’t mind about not getting in there and being under pressure really forced me to come up with some good ideas which i have spent the last month working on and integrating into my common app and suppplements.
