When u transfer from a CC to a university does your gpa transfer there or just your credits?

GPA resets, at least that’s what I’ve heard. It’ll be important again for Grad school though I think.

So your whole gpa is gone and you start fresh but you get the credit for the class right? and does that go for all universities or just uc’s

Don’t know about other universities but your GPA resets when you transfer for UC’s. That can be good if you had a low gpa coming in but it can also be kind of bad because if you get below a 2.0 or whatever it is that first quarter (and the first quarter is when you are most likely to do poorly because you’ll be adjusting to the changes) you’d immediately be on academic probation, which kind of sucks . . .

But I have heard that for grad schools they look at the gpa of classes in your major both from upper division that you took at UC, and the classes in your major you took at CC. I think they average it . . . correct me if I’m wrong

They actually aggregate it. They take your CCC GPA and UC GPA and review them both separately. This is a much more accurate way of determining one’s aptitude for grad school.

They look at trends, recent coursework, and relevant coursework. Your average GPA (from what I understand when transferring from community college) is only really factored into Law school admissions.

Thank for your answers emilsinclair9 and enchantedivy, really helped alot.
