Slipjig, you may have transferred the data but not actually submitted the changes to FAFSA. Double check your FAFSA … is there a saved one? You may have exited even before saving it, though, if you don’t see a saved one.

I would suggest calling FAFSA to see if you have a transaction on file dated the day you did the IRS transfer. They would have it by now if you submitted it. If they say no, you will need to go back in, do the transfer again, save it, and submit it (you need to sign with both student & parent PINs to submit - if you don’t do that, it won’t submit).

I know … it’s a pain. You will get through this, though. And hey … the Profile is far worse!! :)

CMIRA003, you can’t update Profile. You have to contact each school & ask how they want you to let them know about the updates.

Same here. When I choose “link to IRS” after logging in with my daughter’s SSN and password, I get a form with my daughter’s name and SSN prefilled, and I have to enter her address. When I click “submit” I get this error message: The information you entered does not match our records, therefore, we are unable to provide you with
your Federal Income Tax Information.
I am obviously doing something wrong-again.
Any help appreciated.

Oh, dear. I called and got help…our EFC went from about $4700 last year to $16,000 this year, and we earned even less in 2010.
The woman I talked to said I should call back in a few days to see what happened. This is frustrating.

slipjig, you are having a really bad time with this. I wish I could help you! If you want to pm me with the AGI, income from work, taxes paid, and untaxed income info I will see if I can figure out what might be going on.

Know what? I tried to help someone do an IRS transfer today and we had the same error message. It may have something to do with needing to have the EXACT info that is on the tax return … name exactly the same (including middle), address exactly the same. I know that the IRS link is designed to be very, very secure. But I feel your pain, because I had trouble with it, too.

Wait, what? The Department of Education also verifies FAFSA? I thought only the College FAOs verifies the FAFSA. Did the Department of Education always verify FAFSA or is this only for beginning in the 2012-2013 school year?

ED has always been the one who selected FAFSA’s for verification … schools have had the option to only verify 30% of the ones selected by ED and they can also select a FAFSA for verification themselves even if it’s not selected by ED. The new thing is that ED will require those they select to be verified beginning in 12-13, and they will be targeting specific items that must be verified. How schools will change what they request remains to be seen … they must request what ED wants verified, but they may also decide to request the traditional verification info (or not).

Hi, I have the same problem as @slipjig. I get the same error message: “The information you entered does not match our records, therefore, we are unable to provide you with your Federal Income Tax Information.” I double checked everything; address, name, file status, etc. and still got an error. Has anyone found a solution to this? Thanks!

Did anyone figure this out? I received a strange email from FAFSA that didn’t necessarily say that I need to make corrections to my FAFSA Application but it said that I should use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.

Here’s a copy of that email:
"When you completed your 2012-2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) you indicated that you had filed an IRS tax return when you provided your financial information. It appears that you may have been able to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, which allows you to view information from your IRS tax return and transfer that information directly into your FAFSA. The benefits of using the tool is that it’s the best and easiest way to provide accurate tax information and it also eliminates the need for providing a copy of your tax return to the financial aid office. We recommend that you go to [Home - FAFSA on the Web-Federal Student Aid](http://www.fafsa.gov) and access the tool through your FAFSA and easily transfer your tax information.

If you find that you are not able to use the IRS Data Retrieval we want to encourage you to confirm the accuracy of the income information you reported on your FAFSA. Keep in mind that you should not update other information that was correct at the time you filed your FAFSA. For example, do not change your answer for household size (question 72) or for number in college (question 73); unless your answer was incorrect as of the date your FAFSA was originally signed.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. If you have additional questions regarding the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, online help is available. Visit [Home - FAFSA on the Web-Federal Student Aid](http://www.fafsa.gov) and click the “Browse Help” feature on the FAFSA home page for information on the tool and the FAFSA process."

I was able to transfer my parents’ info from IRS no problem, but when I tried doing the same with mine, I got “We are unable to provide you with your Federal Income Tax Information IRS.”

I got the same email today. I just went to try to use the tool and the website is down. I think it is an email that went to everyone. FTR my daughter did not get one, and it is for her financial aid; she also did not file a tax return as she had no income.

I called IRS, the lady said that it’s common for people who file for the first time. The system tries to find previous records and since there are no previous records it delays the whole process.
