yeah, I know it's around the famous pi-day, but do mit announced the official date? if not, when will the date be announced??

They usually announce the date after they've been in selection for a while and have a good idea when it will be over. Generally this happens around the first week of March.

Last year, decisions were released on March 17. MIT announced that date tentatively on March 6 and confirmed it on March 12. In 2006, decisions were released on March 18 and the date was announced March 6. In 2005, decisions were mailed March 11 and the date was announced March 5.

I thought it was 1st of April

^^ naw MIT is usually earlier. As mollie pointed out, it should be March 15th this year (they seem to like Saturdays).

Mollie is correct about the dates in the past few years. Mid-March is a good bet.

If it's the 15th... one month left!! Yikes

To roboticsers in California,

The morning of SVR is generally a good bet.

excitement abounds

@rhodium
that was only last year!
Do we get wireless at SJSU? can i steal your laptop at 9 am ?XP

Ugh. I'm dreading regular decisions...
I couldn't wait to find out my decision back in December because I knew I would have a "second chance..." But now I'm going to be outright rejected with no hope of being admitted. Heheh.

You may be waitlisted!

Waitlist
Number of applicants waitlisted 499
Number admitted from waitlist 20

:[

There is no guarantee from year to year that MIT will go to their waitlist, unfortunately. The past couple years, there have at least been SOME students admitted from the waitlist, unlike the previous several years, but it's not necessarily a sure thing. From the Common Data Sets on the MIT website, and the 2007 "Admissions Statistics" from the Admissions site:

Fall 2007: 499 on waitlist, 20 admitted
Fall 2006: 319, 40
Fall 2005: 401, 0
Fall 2004: 524, 1
Fall 2003: 427, 0

I think this year they're more prone to getting people off the waitlist than usual because of that whole HP ED-less thing. At least that's what I'm hearing with other schools.

What does SVR stand for?

Silicon Valley Regional.

It's one of the FIRST Robotics competitions.

I like that MIT releases decisions on a Saturday. Gives people the weekend to react/deal/celebrate. My money's on the Ides of March (though Pi Day would be awesome)!

Given that decisions will be soon... is it going to be a problem that my guidance counselor just sent out midyear reports two days ago? My midyear report is actually pretty good so I am hoping they get it in time to at least consider it.

~Crosses fingers anxiously~ When will the international selections begin?

If its really good you could ask your gc to fax it.
