When will Carleton release RD decisions?

Which postal service did they use for Internationals? Do they require you to sign upon receiving it? Or do they just dump it in your post box?

for those of you who have received them, what does the acceptance envelope look like? Big, or just a letter?

Also, some of you mentioned letters from departments. Do they only send those out if you’re accepted? Or do they send them to other applicants as well?

Thanks!

Do you think Fedex/UPS would send a notification email to the intended recipient? I’m an int’l applicant.

Admission notifications are usually packets. Department letters are being sent out only to admitted students, I think. Last year the delivery for international acceptances was UPS, I don’t remember if I had to sign anything, though. I think the person they ‘dump it’ to has to sign, which then shows up as a proof of delivery online. But I don’t know if they require signatures if it’s just a post box.

Also, I did not get a UPS notification last year (even though I do on orders etc.) which kind of makes sense because it would give out the adm. decision, meaning that Carleton would rather announce it online (which I am not sure as to why is not happening).

Thanks Alone! I guess I’ll know the result really soon!

Do rejected applicants get letters too?

Yeah, colleges usually send rejection letters too - and they certainly will when they do not release decisions online!

Thanks Alone and the others for all the help - I had never expected decisions would come out so soon!

D got her big envelope today–we’re in the Midwest, about 8 hours from Carleton.

My son got a big envelope today and we are in Connecticut. But does a big envelope mean acceptance? There’s nothing to indicate it on the outside–just the name of the college. It’s a plain white envelope with what seems to be a dark colored folder inside–it’s kind of stiff. No way am I opening it! S won’t be home for a hours. I’m in disbelief, as he was waitlisted by Macalester. But unlike Macalester, he did show lots of interest in Carleton, which he truly loves. But it’s a reach! I’m trying to breathe deeply and not get too excited.

@neumes: That is definitely an acceptance. Congrats to your son!

neumes, congrats! well, I guess to your son.

S2 is at set con for his school’s drama production and knows the letter mat get here today. Hope he’s careful with those power tools and not distracted! This is one of the two pending decisions he’s anxious to receive.

I got my acceptance letter today! I live in Miami, Florida.
I’m so happy!

Decision: Waitlisted

[] SAT II (if submitted): 780 USH, 750 Lit
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.98
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/81 weighted rank. We don’t rank beyond that, really.
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): English Lit (5), English Lang (5), USH (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):
[] Senior Year Course Load: Three AP classes, calculus, grad requirements
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): State-wide writing awards, National Merit Commended, published poet, some debate awards, etc. Nothing too big.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Professional choir for four years, Quiz Bowl for three years (co-captain of varsity team), legislative debate for three years, Student Council for one year (secretary)
[] Job/Work Experience: Closest thing is a hospital internship this summer
[] Volunteer/Community service: 100+ hours with opera camp for children

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[]Strengths: I have a solid academic track record and am dedicated to my extracurricular activities. My teachers like me. Quiz Bowl is traditionally a male field, but I’ve excelled in it.
[]Weaknesses: Math scores.
[li]Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: They probably didn’t think I was interested enough because I couldn’t afford to visit and ran out of time to do an interview. If only they could have heard how much I talk about them at school… and at home… and everywhere…
[/li]

It was all “Carleton this” and “Carleton that.”

[/ul]General Comments: Kind of sad. I got some good news from Smith today, though, so that’s taking some of the sting away. I intend to remain on the waitlist; maybe some of my accomplishments this year can convince them.

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted. You seem like great people, and I would have liked to have met you.

Nothing yet here in GA. Worried that FL has gotten theirs, but not here. It is D’s first choice, and she is getting worried.

Same here, I live in Miami and haven’t recieved a letter. Do they send out rejection letter?

i live in upstate NY and haven’t gotten my letter yet, and i’m flipping some serious pancakes. anyone from NY get notice yet…?

I just got my acceptance letter yesterday. So theyre sending them out for sure.

A big envelope (especially with a folder inside) has to be an acceptance letter. Rejection letters are being sent out, but not via express mail, I think. If you are waitlisted, don’t give up the hope – send in the response card indicating you would like to remain on the list, specify that it’s your top choice (provided it is), and submit supplementary materials (awards, maybe short essays?) if you have any. A “quirky” submission is likely to boost your chances a bit more. If I do not mistake, Carleton did not take anyone from waitlists last year, but does usually, so there is always a chance.

Got waitlist letter in Metro DC.

Stats:
3.6 UW
4.2 W
Full IB Diploma Programme, 8 APs before senior year

2290 760M 740CR 790W

Essays: Damn fine, if I do say so myself
Recs: probably pretty good
ECs: captain of debate team, football for 4 years, had been communicating with coaches but it didn’t get far (by my own doing)

Interview went very well.

I suspect the determining factor was my grades.

Disappointed, not heartbroken. Accepted to UChicago EA
