Strengths: Well-rounded
Weaknesses: No nat’l awards
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: The college admissions process is a giant game, so I’m not sure, but I think I presented myself as a very well-rounded person.

I have been in love with Carleton since sophomore year, but the financial aid didn’t top the scholarships/financial aid I’ve gotten at other schools, so it’s probably a no-go.

Carleton’s been pretty stingy taking acceptances off their waitlist over the past years. BUT, with the economy as it is, yield is likely more unpredictable than ever. Most schools will probably be turning to their waitlists more than is historically the case.

Words of advice:

First, to Cahier26 (and anyone else with financial constraints):

If your FA package falls short of another school’s and it’s a deal breaker, let Carleton know it and be totally up front and straight with them. You have nothing to lose. Carleton FA deals are usually very strong, though. If the issue here is that there’s more money coming from another institution via MERIT aid, different story.

Second, to elliemay, IBfootballer, jordanxbaker and other waitlisters:

To continue the “you have nothing to lose…” concept, SHOW THE LOVE. There’s nothing that appeals to Carleton more than selecting a class of freshmen they know will spend four years in Northfield confusing it with Eden. Forget about sending in supplemental materials that marginally strengthen your academics or ECs. Prove, as best as your pen, paintbrush, or vocal cords will allow you, that you’ve given your heart to CARL!

i like carleton enough to write an admissions essay which conveys that I’d really like to get in. I don’t think I have it in me to grovel for admission, especially given that I’m very fortunate enough to have other good choices. Besides, if I’m not sure I’d accept a spot off the waitlist, I have strong reservations about potentially taking someone else’s.

best of luck to all, and congrats to everyone who got in!

Just got my acceptance, from Madison WI

Thanks 1190- I plan on giving them a call/talking to them at a visit to talk more about fin.aid

o god I have not got my letter yet!!! why didn’t they release decisions online??? any INTERNATIONAL students got letters yet?

So I just got accepted today, I’m so excited.
But I have a question, I was wondering if anyone got any information regarding the accepted student days in their acceptance packet, because I don’t think I got anything. Unless I didn’t look hard enough, which is a possibility.

Oh, and to all of you still waiting or that got waitlisted, best of luck to you!

Received my letter telling me I’m waitlisted today in the DC area. :/

DS is in with extremely generous financial aid at first glance.

lillydaisy - i received two little booklets in the folder: one called “Coming to Carleton” and one specifically about the accepted student days. The first page was a giant schedule for the accepted student weekend…

To everyone else who is waiting, or was waitlisted: good luck!

downcoming,u have already been admitted to Caltech. You don’t ever consider Carleton as one of your choices. Why are u still crazy about it? No offence.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS will receive acceptance letter by FedEx in two or three days.Maybe.
