So I've applied to Stanford and have heard that decisions for all Restrictive Early Action applicants will be released on the 12th at 3:00 p.m. Pacific time. The track and field coach is supporting my application through admissions and has said that he will call me as soon as he finds out my admissions decision.

Will I be receiving a phone call from him shortly after 3:00 on December 12th after I've already checked my email, or do coaches receive word about their athletes a couple days early? Is there a chance I could find out if I got in a couple days earlier than everyone else? I'm dying to know in case you haven't noticed, haha. Thanks in advance for any replies.

trx1150,

I understand your angst. It is a tough few weeks waiting for an ED answer. We’re “in that boat” with my third son.

I’m not sure, how Stanford does it but my two oldest sons applied to an Ivy and ACC school. Both schools had the student log into their Admissions portal at a specific time to get their Admissions decision. I’ve heard this is standard practice with many other schools as well.

As for the Ivy ED application, my son’s coach was not allowed to explicity state if he was accepted or not even though the coach knew he was accepted a month earlier. I guess this is their concept of separation between Athletics and Admissions. The coach left my son a number of hints to ease the tension.

My two cents…whatever the decision, I think you should call the coach to let him know. Over communication in these type of situations is not a bad thing. The coach may or may not know and it is another way to close the communication loop or to make sure a mistake wasn’t made.

Good luck!
