When will I get my admissions decision back?

The U received all my materials on Sep. 28, and they have all my supplemental materials. When should I expect a decision?

You should check your application tracker, at least you will get the idea of when you receive the decision there.
My application was completed on Sept. 25th, and the Office of Admission forwarded my application to CLA for review on Oct. 14th. They said that they will give the decision within 4 weeks so probably I will know their answer on Nov. 14th or earlier. So you should wait at least a month too, I guess.
One more thing to note: I’m not sure if you’re a freshman or transfer. I’m a transfer applicant so maybe there are differences. Some freshmen I know receive their decisions pretty early.
Hope I helped.

The time for acceptance notice vary. My D submitted the Golden Gopher application on 9/15 and the application status was complete on 9/28. The status changed to accepted on 10/14. Then the acceptance to honors program was added to the status a week later. Again, the time for getting admission (or rejection) notice would vary a lot. The best way to find out is through the online tracking. The admission package will arrive by mail about a week later.

My admissions tracker just says:

Nothing about forwarding my application to the college of engineering (my college).

Should I be worried?

^ That is the first status my D got after submitting the application. You will see how it got updated over time. I guess you are not using Golden Gopher Application which may take longer time to review.

I didn’t use the golden gopher application but my app seems to have been reviewed in the first “batch” because I got my decision back for CSE just over two weeks ago. I’m guessing the strongest applicants get decisions back the fastest. I don’t know where your stats put you but there’s still plenty of time to get your decision. People with stats that are more average (or below) will probably not get their decisions back as quickly since the U accepts on a rolling basis and will probably wait until more applications are in (aka towards their deadline) before they determine who gets the remaining spots. I hope this makes sense!

I am actually

^ Then what kind of supplement did you submit? My D just fill the form and send the scores and transcript only.
Anyway, I agree with hville7 that they accept the higher qualification students first, others may take much longer as the deadline for priority rolling is 12/15.

My daughter applied to last year to CSE using the Golden Gopher application and here is her timeline:

Applied: October 7th
Admitted: November 19th
Received Scholarship: December 20th (Gold National Scholarship)

I don’t believe that Golden Gopher applications are reviewed before other applications. I tried looking on the internet and I couldn’t find anywhere where it stated that Golden Gopher applications are reviewed with any priority over regular applications. In fact, I have seen numerous statements that say that you do not have a higher chance of admission just because you are applying using the Golden Gopher application. In my opinion, UMN uses the Golden Gopher application as a marketing tool to get qualified students to apply. With the Gold Gopher application, you don’t have to pay the application fee, but it does not guarantee admission. The lack of having to pay an application fee is meant to entice students to apply.

Would you mind posting her stats?

@asdfkl ~ Here are my daughter’s stats:

ACT: 31
Unweighted GPA: 3.9
Weighted GPA: 4.3
Class Rank: 17/520 (top 3.3%)
5 AP Classes
12 Honors Classes
Lots of EC’s including 200+ hours of community service and leadership positions within her clubs and organizations

Also wanted to add that she is OOS. The Gold National Scholarship gave her instate tuition.

Also wanted to add that if they superscored the ACT, her score would have been a 32.

My D actually got the scholarship notice a few days before the acceptance status changed on the tracker.

Applied: 9/15
Completed: 9/28
Scholarship notice: 10/10 (4 total including Gold National for oos NMF)
Accepted: 10/14
Honors program accepted: before 10/19

I think you still have to pay the fee even with the golden gopher app this year. I logged onto mine to see if it was worth using (I had already started filling out the regular application when I got my login info for my golden gopher app) but it still said I needed to pay a fee.

The Golden Gopher Application didn’t require a fee. I used it to apply and did not pay anything. I applied in mid-September and still haven’t heard back. I’m OOS and applying to the CLA and my stats are just above average so I assume I will hear back closer to the New Year.

@younglion4 - I also applied for CLA in mid-Sept. and haven’t heard anything from them since then. Guess I also have to wait until November or December for their reply. My stats are a little bit higher than the average, but they aren’t very competitive at all.

The Golden Gopher Application waived the application fee and no essay is required. It was way too simple to apply (compared to all the other schools) so my D submitted the app on 9/15 without hesitation. :)

Just for clarification, I don’t believe that an essay is required for the regular application either. Minnesota was one of the easiest applications that my daughter filled out. The University of Iowa was very easy to fill out as well. Most of my daughter’s other applications required her to write 2 essays as part of the application, and for a few she had to get letters of recommendation as well. One of my daughters friends would not have applied to Minnesota if she had not received a Golden Gopher application. The university was not even on her radar until then. She ended up applying on a whim because the process was so easy. After getting accepted and getting a generous scholarship, she decided to go on a campus tour. She absolutely loved the school and is attending this year. The Golden Gopher application definitely fulfilled its purpose in the case of my daughter’s friend. I think it is an excellent marketing strategy that enables them to attract qualified applicants that may not have otherwise applied.

^ I agree that the Golden Gopher Application certainly works to attract applicants. Although UMN is one of the schools on the initial list, we were not so sure to apply to it as we have not visited the campus or collected sufficient information. It is the GGA that made up jump in.

Minnesota was on my daughter’s initial list as well. We took her on a campus tour during the Spring of her junior year and we were all really impressed with the university. My daughter mostly applied to Big Ten engineering programs. She would have applied to Minnesota whether she received the Golden Gopher application or not. My daughter definitely liked how easy the application was to fill out, and my husband and I liked that there was no application fee. It was a win win situation for us.

^ Totally agree. My D is also applying to mostly Big Ten engineering programs too. Actually she has applied to 5 by EA and will apply to another one by RD. Only one school she applied is not from the Big Ten and is far away from the mid-west.
