Hi all, I'm currently a student at Washington and Lee University, and I've been told my file is quite strong. In addition, Navy wanted my application done before the start of September (which was impossible due to moving to college). I've been told that I shouldn't expect to hear back from Navy until April, though my file has been complete since the beginning of this month. I've also been told that my file will not be considered until I have my first semester grades in.

Does anybody know how accurate this is? Should I really not expect anything until April? Will they not look at my file until I have my grades in?

Rumor has it that first semester grades are scrutinized in the admissions process as a strong indicator of performance on the college level, so it is reasonable to assume you will not hear much before they are submitted. However, once submitted, and with everything else complete, your file should go to the admissions board quickly and well before april 1st. Washington and Lee is a great school, and no doubt doing well there can only serve to make a great impression on Navy's admission board! Hang in there, keep the faith and best of luck!

You may hear before April, but probably not until Feb or March. Last year the college students that I know all received their appointments in mid-March. This included some with strong qualifications, who had all the paperwork in by early Fall, and who received nominations in December. It did not appear that the applications were reviewed until the fall semester grades were received, so be sure to have your college send your official transcript on the earliest date available (which will probably be at least a week or two after your last exam.) Please note that my intel is all anecdotal -- there certainly may be exceptions or alternate processes, but I'm thinking it's better to prepare yourself for the wait knowing that it isn't a sign of a problem, simply a matter of process.

You will not here back until the 1st week in March, assuming you are a strong competitor. You will first know you are QQQ'd by a letter from Admissions. Then you must compete for an appointment. If you recieve one, you will know by the 10-15th of March, right before spring break.

Good luck, but yes, you will have to wait it out. No decision will be made, regardless if you have all your paperwork in.
