College of Communication (Radio-Television-Film)
SAT: CR 730 M 720 W 710
SAT II: Lit 750 US 700
ACT: 33
GPA: 3.75 with a declining trend
Essays: pretty good, except for the one about a person you could learn from, which was atrocious.
EC: Quite varied and showing several strong commitments

still nothing, Im getting nervous now.

Vyse, most people who are not top 10% don't have decisions. If you don't have on April 1, then you can worry, lol.

Someone play ad com for me.

GPA: 93.7, Rank 15/75 (small competitive private school)
SAT: 630 M 670 V 800 W (1290=best 1 sitting Math/CR score)
ECs: Strong and diverse, but nothing extremely unusual
Essays: All very strong. Response to the 2nd question on the Texas Common app is a little spotty, but I hear lots of people struggled with that prompt.
App turned in 1/27, 1st semester grades sent in 2/20. Scholarship deadline met 12/1 (which means they had most my stuff then)

You should make it.. But expect to hear from them towards end of march

Vyse - no worries yet!

My NMF/Nat'l Hispanic Scholar daughter with big scholarship offers from A&M and Tulane hasn't heard yet either. I have to imagine there are several committees working feverishly to process the applications and get them to data processing. There is very likely no rhyme or reason to the order in which acceptances are posted on the internet...just stacks and stacks of data entry being processed by a room full of administrative assistants.

Irony...now D has a likely letter from UNC-Chapel Hill, but no word from her own flagship U. :-)

How are my chances... (im international)

sat 1: math 780 verbal 460 writing 580
sat 2: math 800 physics 760 chem 710
no gpa or class rank
doing IB diploma
dynamite recommendations but average level essay

Also, is it true that it becomes alot more competitive when accepting international students?? How do my chances look at college of engineering?

wow.. u screwed up ur verbal and writing...
Can't say... but my guess is that u'll just make it

I mailed in my TOEFL score... its 267 out of 300 on computer-based test.... will they look at it? And will they use the toefl as a subsitute of my bad english SAT sections?

yes definately..
From what i've heard if you get a bad verbal score, a good TOEFL will help alot..

267 is quite decent.. But you'll need to hang in and wait. I'd say you'd make it, considering your math and science scores are good. Are you applying to the college of engineering?

Yes college of engineering. Btw can i ask you a question. What is plan II honors... and how is it different to honors program?

plan 2 honors is the honors program for a liberal arts foundation. People who get into plan 2 have amazing skills at many diff. subjects in high school, and they're usually valedictorians and have great sat scores. There are a bunch of different honors programs at UT, including for engineering and sci. the diff. between plan 2 kids and the kids at the other honors programs is that kids in an engineering honors program have their focus on engineering, whereas kids in plan 2 are more rounded in their academic interests.

I'm out of state and I applied exactly on 2/1... (cough) And then I realized I had to send my permenant resident card (which I sent a month later because the site had errors or something when i first checked.. then i forgot about their existance) but my friend heard on the day after I sent in my card... (i think she did apply earlier now that i think about it) but dang it I want to hear now!!! I keep on checking the site to see if I'm in or not.. Are they in spring break too, btw?

Yes UT is on spring break this week.

I'm from California and I was wondering if I even have a chance at getting in. My rank was 111/483 in the #1 public school in California, also named one of the top 100 high schools in the nation. I had a 3.8 GPA. SAT scores: 660 on critical reading, 640 on math, and 680 on math. SAT 2 scores: 610 on literature, and 550 on math 2. EC's: Principal's Advisory Committee, cross country, Link Crew, Leadership, 2 jobs. I applied on 2/1 and I hope my essays were good. This is my #1 choice school and so I wanted to turn in the best possible application. I'm so nervous. I still haven't heard back. Oh and I applied for the McCombs School of Business (probably not the best idea). My first essay was about overcoming high school where i was in the minority being Caucasian at a school with a 77% Asian population. So what do you guys think my chances of getting in are?

So, assuming you are applying for UT as business major? For a outer stater, I don't want to shatter your hope, but IMO ur chance is not that great.

UT is a huge school, so they don't value essay as much as the ivies. What they look at is your rank and score.

Obviously those categories of yours weren't that strong. Unless you have great hooks, I have to say that your chance is not great.

UT gets extremely competitive over outer state students. My mother called UT yesterday and found out the major that I applied for (Biomed Eng.) has an average class rank of 1.9 and SAT average of 1420. So...go figure.

But this is only my personal opinion. You still have your shot at UT anyway.

I am an international student. My school doenst have class rank or gpa, and I am pursueing the IB diploma. How will they compare me to other applicants if i dont have class rank or gpa. Will be i disadvantaged?

UT look at your ranking a lot (which is associated with GPA). If you don't have class rank or GPA, I think the officers in UT would most likely to do their judgements based on your grades (unless your school doesn't give grades either :D).
