Last year it appeared that there were a couple of different waves of mailing to RD students and I wonder if it is the same this year?

Perhaps because of the addition of EN that won't be the case?

Last year it appeared that there were a couple of different waves of mailing to RD students and I wonder if it is the same this year?

Perhaps because of the addition of EN that won't be the case?

You got it.

With Early Notification this year, we effectively did away with the “wave” strategy - which was really effective in creating anxiety.

This year, EN applicants will receive their decisions around February 15th.
Regular Decision applicants can expect to hear around the middle / end of March.

All decisions are released via snail mail, not via MyRoc.

I just learned that we will not release all of the Regular Decision letters at once due to logistical reasons. It looks like some admit letters will be released sometime after the first week of March (expect to receive them in mid-March) and others we be available at the end of March. WL and Deny letters will also be sent out at the end of the month.

Therefore, it looks like there will be some Regular Decision waves in March. Inserting foot into mouth At least these waves will be closer together than in years past.

Oh, Thanks for the quick responses. Is the step one is currently on via the MyRoc page any indication of when one might receive a letter?

Just out of curiousity Tyler: Why isn’t the MyRoc account used to announce the decision? The page is so sophisticated with the photos of the readers and the checklist, I would think they would include it there as some other schools do on their sites.

We want you to have a physical piece of paper in your hand while you learn the outcome of your University of Rochester decision. This decision is typically a life-changing one, and we do not want to marginalize this moment in any way by sending it through the MyRoc account.

Perhaps this is slowly becoming old-fashioned, but I’m glad that we’re sticking with snail mail. I remember the anticipation, the anxiety, the disappointment, and the blissful moments of elation while I waited for my decision letters to come in. Holding that letter in my hands was one of the most exciting moments in my life. I’m glad our Dean feels that this is still important.

Once you have the official decision letter in your hand, we don’t need to stir up any potential trouble by posting the same redundant decision on your MyRoc account. Perhaps we’re just a little bit afraid that this will happen: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/vassar-college/1282234-vassar-hopefuls-incorrectly-notified-acceptance.html

I think that is fine. I just wondered since MyRoc looks so contemporary. Yes it is so unfortunate what happened at Vassar.

I read the NYTs and one person commented, if you are going to write a dummy letter to hold a spot it should be a sorry you didn’t get in one. That way if there is a mistake like what they had happen at Vassar, then the school can gladly tell the ones who really did get good news instead of bad news.

I would agree the letter in the mail was priceless. My daughter claims I drove 100 mph up the driveway after seeing the tyvek envelope.

I ran in with it and handed it to ds. He ended up stabbing it with a pocket knife because he was so nervous he couldn’t get the envelope open. He sat staring at it for the longest time. What was so funny, he was so nervous he couldn’t figure out what “welcome to the class of 2016 meant” It took seeing the sticker for the car window that he figured out he was in.

It isn’t quite the same when they log into an account. I can’t imagine after the jumping up and down that went on in this house, and the call to the grandparents to find out it was an error. I really feel for those Vassar kids and hope they find a school where they thrive. Like the saying goes, the best revenge is living well.

Last year, I got it on March 30 and they mailed it on about March 25th,
