I heard of that last year it’s still priority, and the release date is around Februrary.
However, It turns into Early admission this year, then will the release date change to the mid-November?
It’s important to me because I might apply ed2 for another school.
Thx for replies.
UIUC decision dates shouldn’t impact your plan to apply ED to another school-won’t the application due dates for ED schools pass before any of UIUC’s decision notification dates? So you wouldn’t know what Illinois was going to do before putting in your ED application. Go look on the admissions page for UIUC; right now, the application hasn’t opened, but the dates page lists notification dates for EA as 12/15 and FINAL as February 2. Just appreciate that the EA December notification schedule is back in place. The single announcement date in February used recently was not fun.
Thx il2023. Ed1’s final submitting date is 2016.11.1;however, Ed2’s final submitting date is mostly 2017.1.1. So if this year ea’s releasing date is in December, i wouldn’t apply that ed2 school because you know that I have to go there if I was admitted.
I didn’t quite understand finals dates for February 2… Does it mean only the students filling in waitlist should be wait for the final results in February?
Really appreciated if someone gives me a clear answer of that can I receive the results if I apply with ea before 2017.1.1(ed2). Yes/no?
Go to the Illinois admissions page, then the dates page; do follow up with admissions staff if you have questions. Buys you lots of peace of mind. Anyway, so looks like you have a 2-week window, potentially, to decide whether or not to submit an application to Ed#2. I assume if you get an acceptance from UIUC on 12/15, then you won’t apply to Ed#2?
The UIUC dates page says EA application deadline is 11/1, then “status update” is 12/15; on that date, an applicant gets admission, denial, or is informed that a final decision will be issued on the February date. If one applies after 11/1, and by the deadline of 12/1, then the notification date is February 2. Backstory-UIUC changed up its procedures last year after a couple of years with a single February admissions notification date; in part, the changes are geared at giving applicants an accurate decision as early as possible, and cutting loose applicants rather than letting them languish on a wait list.
Read the application directions and procedures carefully for any school-they do change from year to year, so don’t a-s-s-ume!
Thx! I really get a bunch of useful info in this post.
I would check details later.
A couple additional points. UIUC’s early action (“priority”) deadline of Nov 1 is a deadline not just for the application but also for SAT or ACT test scores, which must be in UIUC’s hands by Nov 1 and thus make sure you order test scores sent by mid-October (UIUC des not use SAT subject tests to determine admission so you need not send any of those – and if you do send subject test scores the persons who actually make admission decisions never see the scores). In mid-Dec, the decision you get can be: accepted; accepted to alternative major (meaning you have been rejected for your first choice and offered a different major); rejected; or deferred. Those deferred and all those who apply after Nov 1 get decisions Feb 2. The two colleges that are notorious for having a lot of deferrals from early action are engineering and business, the majority of which deferrals are then usually admitted in Feb.
I note in the post above you mention that colleges you are looking at have ED1 application deadlines of “2016.11.1” and ED2 deadlines of “2017.1.1.” Those are last years dates so make sure you check the colleges for this year;s dates when they are provided. Likely the 11/1 and 1/1 dates will not change but make sure.
Regarding the final answer for deferrals, I would disagree with the statement above that the majority of deferrals are usually then admitted in February. Last year’s return to two notification dates was in response to the high number of students placed in deferral status in recent years, which resulted in a hit to good will, alienating applicants who were waitlisted and offended, and ended up elsewhere, and an overall lowered yield for UIUC. Last year’s admission date changes also incorporated a move to minimize deferrals; if an applicant had an 80-90% likelihood of admission based on past years’ data, the student receives an admission offer in December, and NOT the deferral he might have received in past recent years. And that’s a good thing! Good luck all.
