When will we hear about financial aid and scholarships?

furthermore, your “D” (why the heck can’t you guys just say DAUGHTER?!) should be making her own decisions. you’re trying to make your daughter apply to colleges or scholarships when she should be the one deciding where she applies to!

I finally received notification of the Stamps scholarship in the mail today. The letter said that the $10,000 given by the Stamps family will be matched by a departmental award from the School of Nursing, making the scholarship the equivalent of a full ride (I’m an instate student, so $20,000 covers tuition + room and board.) Needless to say I am overwhelmed with excitement and will soon be submitting my enrollment deposit.

GO BLUE!

Congratulations again, Smart.Cookie, that is wonderful. I am sure you will love U of M. Good Luck next year.

Congrats smart.cookie! I must say, I am rather envious of you at the moment :).

^^^
Congrats smart.cookie! You deserve it.

I haven’t submitted the CSS Profile or the FAFSA. If I don’t submit it until early April (my dad is rarely home now because of work and doesn’t have time to do taxes and that), will that hurt my chances at need-based aid? I assume that that has nothing to do with merit aid, correct?

Congrats, smart.cookie! I am so very happy for you. You’re a great contributor here on cc so I expect in real life you are supremely deserving! Cheers! K

Jrt – Egads! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get BOTH CSS and FAFSA in right away. Estimate based on last years taxes (2008) and then update the info when your dad gets his filed in April. You won’t get ANY need aid if you don’t get it in. You are presently PAST the time where you’d be eligible for state of Michigan competitive grants (if they’re even funded this year) (they need two weeks to process and dl is March 1st) if you were eligible for those. If you don’t get filing soon, you won’t have any idea of a package in time to make your decision before May 1st. So do not wait another day if you need a lot of aid!

Speaking of the FAFSA, if I was selected for verification will that affect me if it is not cleared up by the deadline. I submitted the FAFSA on jan 12th and it was processed on jan 19th. Ive heard that the university might or might not ask for anything from me. Should I just call the financial aid office first or wait to hear from them?

I just got off the phone with a man at the LSA scholarship office and, apparently, the FINAL shipman invites were sent out “recently” and that if you don’t get one in the mail in the next few days, then you didn’t get the scholarship (invited for an interview, whatever). Best of luck to all!

As well, I didn’t ask about this, but has anyone received any LSA-specific scholarships (10k/year, 5k/year, or whatever from LSA)?

I highly doubt I’ll get anything. My dad makes pretty good money. The reason I’m waiting is that he’s making around 25k less this tax year than last.

Jrt, how much does your dad make? Have you used any EFC calculator’s online?

mfortuna6438, no, it won’t effect anything. I’ve been selected too. You’ll probably get your financial aid package early March, and then they’ll ask you to send in some materials later. If everything is the same as you said on the FAFSA/PROFILE, then your package won’t change.

I finally did my FAFSA and im doing my CSS Profile tomorrow…Senior year procrastination is in full effect

In that case, JRT, you are better off submitting the lower accurate number and you’d not be eligible for the MCS anyway. Have you run the calculation?
If need-based aid is not going to influence your decision, then you are fine as long as you meet the April deadline supplied by Fin Aid. But you’ll still want to apply so that you have the option – if needed due to cashflow – for you to take preferential student loans and your dad to take a plus loan instead of using liquid assets to pay (since pay is less for 2009) if that’s a route you might want to go. Make sense?

Looks like I didn’t get it. Oh well, looks like I’m not going to be going to UoM next year.

Has anyone received it…?

…?

anyone know anything about engineering scholarship notification?

I just got mine today (or yesterday, dunno parents didn’t tell me about it 'til this morning and I’ve been out and about w/ friends past couple of days) post marked Feb 15th, I live in KY

Also, it requires you to make your decision by March 16th.

Does anyone know if accepting UofM’s Honors offer and paying the $200 changes the possibility of receiving any LSA scholarships?

One more day until “early March” when U of M starts releasing financial aid packages. Is anyone else here more nervous about financial aid than they were when getting accepted? I guess getting in was the easy part for most people in this thread…
