lightja…congrats what exactly did you get? I think I remember your earlier posts…but could you repeat your stats on this thread…thanks Also are you planning to attend??

Now that financial aid will soon be dispersed, how will we be notified. Is it by mail or email?

ok, so this might be a stupid question but i really have no idea. is it ok that i’m waiting to send in the CSS profile until i get (if i get) accepted? i was deferred ER. because it costs a lot of money and i dont want to send it in if i get rejected from U of M anyway…

I’d send it in if you want aid at all

btw, returning students should hear this week as well no?

@littlefalls

Thanks!

I got the Engineering Honors Scholarship, which is a $20k per year ($80k total) scholarship for out of state students or a $8k per year ($32k total) scholarship for in-state students, and I’m out-of-state (Kentucky), and coincidentally, there are many fewer out-of-state students awarded the scholarship than in-state students.

I was notified only by mail, nothing came via e-mail for the scholarship, though acceptance did come through both, e-mail first.

Stats look something like this:

ACT: 28 (got accepted with this, had a 35 math, with an engineering major, 26 everything else)
ACT: 33 (sent this in after I was accepted, probably contributed to the scholarship) 34M 33E 33R 31S

GPA: UW/W: 3.91/4.0, after I sent in my grades (which they didn’t request: 3.88/4.04, with a 100% in BC Calculus

ECs: Weak. French Club, NHS, inconsistant, no 4-year commitments, and no community service
Awards: top 10%, magna cum laude, commonwealth diploma (highest diploma awarded in KY)

Essays: first draft essays, decently written, showed my passion for computer engineering quite well.

Recs: good, not excellent

hooks: none, except being from kentucky

what I think: 35 math and 33 ACT, as well as the fact that I sent it to them after I was accepted, showing further interest, 100% in BC calc, and being from Kentucky (geographic diversity, the only diversity they’re allowed to award for since the affirmitive action case)

I have to decide if I’m going by March 16th. I’ll probably attend, but i’m still not 100%.

Good luck to all those in waiting!

omg 9 more mins till “Early March”!!!

$1500/year scholarship from the Department of Mathematics due to my ECs in math.

@crazypianist: did you just find out today?

So i called the financial aid office today, and i was told that they wont even download the FAFSA’s until next week. So financial aid might still take a lil while to hear about.

whaaaaaaaaaaaa, why?!?!?!?

I’m going to call them tomorrow and ask. I’m really disappointed they won’t even start downloading the FAFSA’s till next week. I remember people last year heard back as early as March 5th, and I thought it would be even sooner this year.

Yea im not sure. The lady said somethin about how they had to have the get all the software in place first. Who knows if she was incorrectly informed or not, but its what i was told.

Again…congrat lightja

Kentucky was a definate hook for ya…because my son also had 33 ACT (35 math), 4.0 GPA, 4.3 weighted and ranked 11 out of 630 and many EC’s showing both leadership and commitment. We are not need based OOS from Nebraska. Congrats again…are you planning to attend??

Peace: I got the letter on Friday. It was dated February 23rd.

Are you serious? Waiting another week just to download the FAFSA? That’s pretty irritating considering how long we’ve waited already. At least I have the one scholarship I can count on. ^^;

Probably has something to do with spring break.

@littlefalls

Thanks again, and I am planning to attend, I recently found a roommate I’ll probably room with, so it’s looking more and more like a possibility, that’s for sure.

By the way, did your son get in and/or get a scholarship?

lightja: Yes he was accepted EA in November…and no $$ yet…still wishing and hoping. Probably have to wait for some top tier kids to decide to go elsewhere first. You are very, very fortunate since $$ is very slim for OOSr’s. At least that is what we have heard. We knew this going in, but it would still be a nice surprise.

lightja…Are you a NMF by any chance?? Or urm female engineering candidate? Just passing the time looking for the rhyme or reason to it all to pass on to those coming up the ranks.

I tried to call the OFA, but couldn’t reach them (10 mins with same position in line so I gave up). Any news on financial aid?!
