when you complain about the high tuition, consider this

We have just been told that this year the "real tuition" for each hotchkiss student is $62500..the tuition we pay is around 35000, the rest is subsidized by the hotchkiss fund...

Of course there is greater expense than tuition. Same would hold true for other Prep Schools as well. Most folks don't complain about total expense but rather cost of tuition. I get your point.

that's what i m talking about.... even if you are a full paying student, you only pay barely above half the total expense....
my point is ...most people dont see the big picture, starts complaining about the increase in tuition every year and fail to realize the increase in total expense is even greater, which the school or alum fund pays for

but dont forget all the other costs.
books, tech fee., medical, travel........
while they may be insignificant individually together its costly. in order to attend sps as a full paying student the cost is over $40000 uncluding books, tech fee, etc....

however i do agree w/ bearcats.
and besides if your accepted i think its worth it

I think the main point is that you should shoot for the best possible education your family can afford.

Let's face it, a very small percentage of the US population can afford the luxury of sending their kids to boarding school.

If your family can afford it, a strong case can be made for boarding schools, although there are caveats which should not be overlooked (and addressed elsewhere on this board) -- i.e. its not for everyone.

Books, tuition, and fees: $34,500.
Flight tickets to see mom and dad: $800.
Laundry: $10.
Fancy new outfit: $150.

...

The Experience: Priceless.

For everything else, there's school endowments and alumni donations. :D

haha :)
lols

This is true for practically every private boarding school in the US, and is also true for most universities too.
